Fish Bras
Thoughts and musings on anything sports, politics, theology, music, literature, hunting, and fishing through the rantings of a madman still trying to figure-out why striped bass fishing tactics won't work on Chinook salmon.

An Unbearable Night on the Town
Bear makes surprise visit to Alaskan Bar Monday
Looks like he was maybe aiming to order a fuzzy navel.
Also, if there'd been both a deer and a bear, they could've had beer! ;)

Popcorn (Ceiling Textures)
I'd really love to meet the numbnuts who, way back in the 1970s, thought it would be a really neat idea to popcorn-texture ceilings in homes.
I'd love to meet him [Note: I'm assuming it was a "him"] and introduce him to a well-charged cattle-prod.

Murphy on Painting: Laws #2 and #3
It appears that Law #2 runs along the lines of:
It also appears that if you violate Law #2, Law #3 is:
- If you have popcorn-textured ceilings; and,
- You do not have the steadiest, detail-oriented of hands; and,
- You are instructed by your significant other not to paint within an inch of said ceiling so that she can do the fine detail work at the edge of the popcorn; and,
- You have laid a wide strip of blue tape across edge of said popcorn-textured ceiling (you know, to have something just in case you feel rushed with the roller); and,
- You are using a small brush to demarcate instructed paint-free zone; and,
- You are rocking out to a mixture of Van Halen, The Who, Ozzy, Etc.; and,
- You decided to get a jump on painting that big wall while said significant other is still washing dishes from lunch...
It also appears that if you violate Law #2, Law #3 is:
Your significant other will have miraculously just finished the dishes and has arrived to start edging the ceiling area.

Murphy on Painting: Law #1
If you are using an obnoxiously sticky, stinky, oil-based adhesive primer to start the repainting job to a custom-built closet shelf, whose horrid dark mahogany tint hasn't been painted in about 40 years, your brush will through a rather large drip across the length of said closet to land perfectly on the spot of carpet where your activities just happened to pull the drop-cloth out of position.

A Little Something from the HR Sith Lord
This article from Forbes is a little dated, but I found it while shredding - er- cleaning-out some of my old HR Sith Lord files. It's a rather fun and definitely appropriate if you manage people and organizations:

Netflix Addictions
Tulip and I have been a little obsessed over one of our recent Netflix movies, having watched it over and over, and are having a hard time getting it back into its envelope for return. Hell, we've only had the thing like 2 weeks.
Just goes to show that watching a movie about characters with long wooden pipes and fuzzy, woolly toes is a hard hobbit to break.

And, Sometimes...
And, sometimes the moment of beauty just makes you wanna hurl.
Grumpy day, with a lot of negative thoughts about the job and all the like. The weather went shitty again. Been having one of those spells where it seems like I'm breaking everything I touch. Had lots of fun trying to update my side business's website after Yahoo switched over to FTPS and my old FTP software wouldn't support it.
Blah-blah-blah.Yeah, I know. Tell us about something we all don't already suffer...
Was driving out to pick-up Fishing Buddy for the last night of rimfire pistol league and it had stopped snowing and the sun had come out. Was on Egan drive, heading from town out to the Valley and watching the early evening start to fade towards twilight as I approached Sunny Point. The last of the sun was reflecting off the fresh snow out on the flats at the north end of Gastineau Channel. Could see the snow-topped Chilkat Mountains off in the distance and the calm air was giving way to a light mist rising off the flats.
It was so beautiful!
It was one of those pure moments of beauty that I like to write about.
I was thinking how nice it would be to pull over and watch for a while. I was wishing I'd remembered to bring my camera along—it would've made for a great post. I was remembering just why I'd moved up here and how good life could be! :)
I took a deep, cleansing breath; hoping to calm my nerves and proverbially step-back and pause and enjoy.
I took a deep, cleansing breath.
And gagged on the smell of rotted hotdogs emanating from the landfill and just about swerved off the icy highway as my stomach heaved.
Some days the moment of beauty feels like it's nothing more than the fact that one of the propane burners has gone down again. :(
Oh well.

Okay, I Know This is SO LAST YEAR"S NEWS; However, I Can't Resist
Okay, I know this WAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY old news but I stumbled
on this while doing research for a project at work.*
Check it out. I love his t-shirt!
Also, something to think about (including yours truly) as we all sit around and bitch about how horrible we have it.
*Why, yes, I'd actually Googled "MacGyver Medicine" in reference to something an interviewee for a work project had said.

Now That's Just Gross, Mudblood!
Chris, from Arma Borealis, makes a startling discovery in this Picture of the Day!
I'd always thought of Dolores Umbridge as a raging, nanny-Demokrat of the magic world. Now, we know her muggle doppelganger.

Math Education Through the Decades
Got this in an email from the Ant (BFF), who's well-entrenched Back East, behind enemy lines:
1. Teaching Math In 1950s
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the price. What is his profit ?
2. Teaching Math In 1960s
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the price, or $80. What is his profit?
3. Teaching Math In 1970s
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80. Did he make a profit?
4. Teaching Math In 1980s
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80 and his profit is $20. Your assignment: Underline the number 20.
5. Teaching Math In 1990s
A logger cuts down a beautiful forest because he is selfish and inconsiderate and cares nothing for the habitat of animals or the preservation of our woodlands. He does this so he can make a profit of $20.. What do you think of this way of making a living? Topic for class participation after answering the question: How did the birds and squirrels feel as the logger cut down their homes? (There are no wrong answers, and if you feel like crying, it's ok. )
6. Teaching Math In 2009
Un hachero vende una carretada de maderapara $100. El costo de la producciones es $80. Cuanto dinero ha hecho?
7. Teaching Math In 2013
Who cares, just steal the lumber from your rich neighbor's property. He won't have a gun to stop you, and the President says it's OK anyway cuz it’s redistributing the wealth.

Some Terrible News for Skier Lindsey Vonn
Got this in an email from Skeeter the other day:
My condolences to both Ms. Vonn and U.S.
The International Olympic Committee announced today that it has taken back the gold medal previously awarded to American skier Lindsey Vonn and given it to U.S. President Barack Obama.
Olympic officials said Obama deserved the medal more than Vonn because no one has ever taken a country downhill faster than he has.
My condolences to both Ms. Vonn and U.S.

Oh, How Brilliant!
God, Tam, why do I subject myself to some of the things you post about? She calls this the strangest gun safety post you will ever see, where she brings us to this:
Glockenpony
You should blame WizardPC for starting this. You can blame me for the name, though.
And for what follows.

Having a Bad Day?
Well, it's nothing compared to the day Boogie, the Quaker Parrot* is having.
Let's let him tell you about it himself!
You've obviously got nuthin.
*Full disclosure: I have a soft spot for these little green dragons, having shared my life with one for more than 15 years!

Uh...
Good God, I hope this is a joke:
First, it's the foot fetish. Unfortunately, Rex just keeps putting it in his mouth at playoff time. Now, we have this:
I'm all for getting kinky with the love of your life but, geez, in a Sanchez jersey?
Today the New York Daily News leads with the discovery that Ryan has a tattoo on his right arm of his wife wearing a green and white jersey with the number 6 on it. No. 6 happens to be the number of the Jets' quarterback, Mark Sanchez.
